In what the Shurugwi folk have termed a factious act, a Rank Marshall hijacked a Honda Fit jam-packed with passengers at Mambohwa Business centre and swindled the travellers of US $ 110, 00 before sprinting away.
Lungile Majoni of plot number 7 Surprise Shurugwi who worked as a Hwindi (Rank Marshall) at Mambohwa Extension business centre did the unexpected when he hijacked a Honda Fit filled with passengers from Panashe Salim (23) who had gone to the nearby tuck-shop to purchase a pack of cigarettes.
The passengers who were travelling to Zvishavane believed Majoni was the Chauffeur and was going to ferry them to their destination hence they paid their Honda fares, in the process the accused collected $100 from Luckson Siziba and $10 from Paul Munyaradzi.
Upon reaching a police checkpoint at a 14 km peg along the Gweru Zvishavane Highway the accused sprung out of the car sprinting like a springbuck only to disappear in the nearby forest leaving the passengers in the car without giving them their change.
As fate would have it the accused was later apprehended by the police while on a drinking spree at Mambohwa business centre.
Majoni who is yet to appear before Shurugwi Magistrate is facing two criminal counts, one of theft as defined in section 113 of the criminal law (codification and reform) Act chapter 9:23 as well as contravening section 57(1) (b) of the Road Traffic Act 13:11(unlawful contact or the use of a vehicle without consent of the owner).
