The country has maintained improved power generation despite challenges, figures from the Zimbabwe Power Company have shown.
According to the latest data from the power utility the country’s electricity generation as of today has been as follows:
Hwange: 989 Megawatts, Kariba: 550 Megawatts, IPPs: 45 Megawatts amounting to 1584 Megawatts.
Apparently, neighbouring, Zambia power supplier, ZESCO Limited has announced a new 12-hour staggered load-shedding schedule for Lusaka, effective May 27, 2024.
ZESCO says this approach aims to minimize the impact on customers as much as possible.
About 80% of Zambia’s energy comes from hydro power stations which were severely affected by El Niño induced drought.
Zimbabwe is equally affected as power production at Kariba is below full capacity due to limited water supply.
