Police have launched a manhunt for a group of assailants who allegedly murdered a Zhombe man using machetes, logs and knobkerries at a friend’s homestead in Silobela.

Acting Midlands Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the murder case which occurred last Friday.

It is reported that Mlungisi Sizwira Sibanda (now deceased) of village 16 Chief Ntabeni, Zhombe was found dead in a pool of blood after being attacked by a group of assailants.

Sizwira was on a drinking spree with Forward Sibanda of Mpandawana at Parker Business Centre when a misunderstanding arose between Forward and his brother.

Allegations are that Forward and Brighton engaged in the brawl which led to a fight, but Forward managed to escape the scene.

Sizwira who was not involved in the fight, left the scene and decided to spend a night at Forward’s homestead.

During the same night the accused persons teamed up and armed themselves with machetes, logs and knobkerries and proceeded at Forward’s homestead where they found Sizwira and Forward’s wife sleeping in separate rooms.

They then attacked Sizwira who sustained deep cuts on the right hand, head and bruises all over the body.

The assailants left the scene leaving Sizwira in a pool of blood, he was found the following day by a relative battling for his life and taken him to a local hospital.

The deceased died on the way to Loreto Mission hospital.

ZRP Silobela attended the scene and Sizwira body was taken to Nkayi General Hospital Mortuary for post mortem.

Assistant Inspector Mukwende said the accused persons are still at large and we appeal for information that might lead to their arrest.
