At least two artisanal miners were killed in a tragic mine shaft collapse in Silobela, Kwekwe District.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands province reported that two illegal miners died after the gold mine they were working in collapsed in Silobela Kwekwe District on 13 June 2020.
The tragedy happened at Crenjor 8 mine in Silobela.
According to Midlands province police spokesman Inspector Goko, the 2 illegal miners who died were identified as Nkulumane Ndhlovu 24 and Julius Mabute 25.
Circumstances are that the deceased were working under the mine being assisted by two others who were outside receiving gold ore, Agreement Khumalo and Melody Zhou.
Suddenly the duo who were outside heard noise coming from the shaft and rushed in to inspect only to find out that the mine shaft had collapsed trapping the 2 inside.
The two died trapped under the collapsed debris.
They’re however retrieved after a rescue operation got rid of the debris.
Inspector Goko said they’re still investigating the possible causes of the collapse of the mine.
