The notorious “Tobva Tadii Paya” gang has been jailed following a full trial, court documents show.

In July 2017, three young men from Kadoma-Battlefields area became famous for wrong reasons after they were filmed by members of the Zimbabwe National Army confessing on camera how they broke into houses and forced themselves on women.

Some of their victims were prostitutes who were harassed and abused by the gang while they were in their clients’ bedrooms.

The magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo had initially sentenced the gang — Romeo Chirara (18), Admire Chirongoma (18) and Thabani Gaza (20) — to 10 years each in jail, but suspended three years.

The four begged for mercy saying they wanted to go back to school but the magistrate would have none of it.

The trio will effectively serve seven years each on condition they do not commit similar offenses in the next few years.

The magistrate reached at the decision after considering that they were young and lacked guidance from their families.
