President Robert Mugabe has for the first time directly and actively engaged in factional and succession wars by taking over from his wife Grace Mugabe as the chief rally speaker for the G40 faction as the Zanu PF succession war continues.
Speaking to supporters and media, Mugabe spent much time attacking war vets and youths who he accused of denigrating his name and that of his wife.
This came in the same week when Mnangagwa’s key supporters in the Midlands were kicked out of Zanu PF and government.
A number of local Chinese business people also turned up for the rally.
