Godfrey Tsenengamu, a key Emmerson Mnangagwa Presidency proponent and former chairperson for Mashonaland Central Province Zanu-PF Youth League has warned Robert Mugabe and his wife to stay out of the succession race.
Speaking to journalist at Harare’s Media Center Tsenengamu said Grace Mugabe is not presidential material and should be concerned at looking after her frail husband.
Tsenengamu who was also the national coordinator of the “Save Zanu-PF Campaign” said Grace should not touch the successor.
“If you think you can sustain this [rallies] then move to the next rally. Let me warn you that this will spark resistance in the party.
“If this is the way you want to finish your husband’s career. Then that is okay. ZANU-PF is going to be no more as it will explode into turmoil. I urge those organizing the rallies to continue organizing the rallies so that people could see that she is not presidential material.
“What we know is that you are a hired spoiler,” he said.
Tsenengamu disclosed that they had challenges in pushing Grace Mugabe into the women’s league position. We had challenges when we put her into the women’s league position for she doesn’t have any history.
Tsenengamu who said his address was not being backed by anyone said he was speaking on behalf of some who are afraid to speak out, “I am not moved by threats. I know you can do nasty things including killing, Killing the messenger won’t kill me. In fact, if they kill me. I will better serve whilst at the grave site,” he added.
He disparaged Grace as someone who has not time left to salvage what is left of her husband’s career. Munhu apererwa ne nguva. Hapana munhu akatikwesere anotaura nezvekufa kemurume wake arimupenyu, [ No sane person can speak ill of her husband’s death whilst he is alive].
Tsenegamu who chided Mugabe for casting away his long time allies like Mnangagwa contested that there is need for the succession issue to be told now in the party
“Why are you abandoning them now. They have been too loyal for too long. They have done all in their means to prop you up all these years,” he scolded.
In October 2015, Tsenengamu and two others, Paul Rwodzi, and Batsirai Musani, were expelled following a no-confidence vote.
Tsenengamu was suspended alongside Godwin Gomwe and Vengai Musengi on allegations of publicly insulting Grace Mugabe and other top leaders. However, Tsenengamu and Musengi accused the party leadership of being selective in its application of the law, saying Hurungwe East and Women’s League finance secretary Sarah Mahoka should also be disciplined for publicly dressing down Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa
