Presidemt Robert Mugabe, his wife Grace, sons Chatunga and Robert junior are in Masvingo to attend Zanu PF 2016 Congress.
The first family was welcomed at Masvingo Airport by deputy presidents,Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko.
Masvingo city is a hive of activity as party bigwigs are sitting to chat the way forward.
Mugabe will officially open the conference today.
The revolutionary party is meeting at a time when there is intense fighting over the position of party leadership as rival factions prepare for life after Mugabe.
Many were left shocked when it was announced that the party’s provinces have already endorsed President Mugabe as the presidential candidate for 2018.
Mugabe looks very frail and weak.
He is due to do medicals in the far east when the congress concludes.
Simon Khaya Moyo is a notable absentee to this year’s gathering amidst rumours that he succumbed to factional wars and has never recovered since the time when he was accused of supporting a Mujuru faction towards the end of 2014.
