The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) has called for the total shutdown of all universities and colleges over fees hikes.
ZINASU says it tried to engage Minister of Higher Education, Amon Murwira but failed to come up with a solution.
“We tried to negotiate with Amon Murwira but the negotiations failed to produce the desired outcome,” says the students body.
ZINASU urged its members to heed the call:
“Fellow students I know you were waiting for a signal.
“The signal is here! 9 May we are shutting down all Universities and Colleges,” said.
The students are complaining against the recent fees hikes.
Meanwhile, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe says it endorses the shutdown.
“We endorse the 09 May Shutdown demanding inclusive access to education!
“We call upon teachers and other citizens to support the call by the revolutionary students movement.”
