BREAKING: Zimbabwe 2018 election date is 30 July, Diaspora vote dismissed

President Emmerson D Mnangagwa has set Monday July 30 as the date for the country’s harmonised elections.

Mnangagwa proclaimed the election date in a Zimbabwe Government Gazette published this morning.

The day will also be used for the election of members of the National Assembly and councillors under section 46 (17)(c) of the Electoral Act Chapter 2 of 2013.

If no one gets 50 percent plus one vote, run-off presidential elections will be held on Saturday, 8th of September 2018.

Meanwhile, the country’s Constitutional Court has dismissed an application by Zimbabweans living outside the country who were seeking the amendment of restrictive provisions of the Electoral Act, which precludes Diasporas from participating in Zimbabwe’s electoral processes.
