Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company has allegedly set plans to install a 132KV substation in Karoi that will see it electrifying 8 000 houses for free in the town as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Karoi Town Council Chairman, Councillor Abel Matsika said the plan was mulled sometime in 2017.

“As part of the agreement to the project ZETDC was told to undertake social responsibility issues to which they agreed, “ he said.

“Amongst the benefits associated with the project is that ZETDC is going to electrify 8000 houses for free in Karoi, sink boreholes in each and every ward.”

Councillor Matsika said council was very much grateful for the move as the town was going to witness a number of community benefits as expoused in the agreement reached between two parties.

Chairman Matsika also said the local authority was also in the process of constructing a two storey building that for Small and Medium Enterprises with tendering process already underway.

He said the complex will accomodate hundreds of SME’s in the town.

“We want to enter into a build operate transfer arrangement, we are already in the tendering process and we are also currently engaging NUST to make desings we want ,”

“The SME complex is going to help address running battles between council and vendors as we are going to make sure to register all vendors thus making sure we are accountable as council in addressing vending issues, “ he said.
