Founding President and leader of a political party,  the Zimbabwe Democratic Change (ZDC) which was supposed to be launched (Friday) has died.

The President of ZDC Josphat Mungwariri Ushewokunze died in a car accident in South Africa on his way to Zimbabwe, according to reports.
The Vice President of ZDC, only identified as Mr Thomas Sibanda  said as a party, they were still investigating the issue.

“We have sent a delegation to the hospital where the body of the deceased is to establish whether it really is him or not,” he said.

More than 150 political parties have expressed interest in participating in the historic general elections, which will for the first time in Zimbabwe‘s history since 2002, be without Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe.

Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer of the colon in February this year while his nemesis Mugabe was toppled by the military in November 2017.

The main contenders for the presidency for this year’s elections are the MDC-T’s Nelson Chamisa and Zanu-PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa.
