Econet has caught its customers unaware after it increased data bundle tariffs by at least between 250 to 300 percent last midnight.

Unlike previous scenarios where the country’s telecommunications giant would alert its subscribers via text messages this time around no such alerts were made, people were only shocked to be welcomed by the shock prices.

The popular WhatsApp weekly bundle which was $1 now costs $3, the same goes for all the other former $1 bundles which are now $3.

Econet’s WhatsApp monthly which was $3 now costs $9.

The increase was, however, largely predictable after the state owned firms Newton and Telecel were the first to hike prices respectively.
