As the state controlled media and Zanu PF allege that their supporters where attacked by CCC members at Mtora business centre in Gokwe North, chief Nembudziya area on Sunday; the Nelson Chamisa outfit has a different version of events. They say “Zanu PF members in Gokwe North tried to violently gain entry into the venue we had booked for a rally which was cleared by @PoliceZimbabwe.”
Many observers have blamed authorities for allowing both Zanu PF and CCC to hold events at the same place on the same day. CCC were authorised by Gokwe Police HQ(see letter below) to conduct a rally while it is not clear why ruling party members were gathered at Mtora. Our readers say it is very unlikely for police to authorise CCC meeting when they know the ruling party is also in the area.
REACTIONS AND IMAGES
ZBC posted this message: Citizens Coalition for Change supporters attacked and injured ZANU PF supporters in Gokwe-Nembudziya this Sunday. Those injured are receiving medical attention at Gokwe North District Hospital. The ZANU PF supporters were attending a voter registration mobilization and awareness meeting at Mtora Growth Point.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere countered the news with a different version of what transpired. Wrote Mahere:
We condemn the unlawful, violent attack on our members by Zanu PF thugs at our Gokwe Nembudziya Rally yesterday. We were cleared by the Police to hold a rally at Mutora Business Centre. Zanu PF is running scared. We want elections not war! #NoToViolence..f mahere
This was not received well by the local Zanu PF MP and former Mnangagwa ally Justice Mayor Wadyajena who said the following to Mahere:
Adv, this isn’t only uncalled for but unacceptable. Please show me one pic of any CCC supporter with injuries inflicted in Nembudziya. Your rally simply flopped. Police have arrested 1 of your thugs & 2 are on the run. The good people of Nembudziya will hunt down those criminals! ..jm wadyajena
CCC official pages also issued a statement condemning Zanu PF actions. They also posted a police clearance letter below to prove that they had permission to gather at the venue and Zanu PF members should not have invited themselves to the CCC event.
Zanu PF members in Gokwe North tried to violently gain entry into the venue we had booked for a rally which was cleared by @PoliceZimbabwe. In trying to maintain peace, at least 5 of our security personnel were badly injured. ZRP had to disperse these thugs…ccc
