At least five people died this morning and several others were injured  in an accident involving a pick-up truck and  a haulage truck at the intersection of Harare Drive and Borrowdale Road.

When reporters arrived at the accident scene bodies of the deceased where yet to be collected while the injured had been ferried to nearest hospitals.

There were at least 12 people in the pick up truck.

Harare North MP Rusty Markham witnessed the scene and posted online:

It is with regret that I inform you that there has been a horrific accident on the intersection of domboshava road and Harare drive. There scene is dreadful . I have seen at least 6 deceased and about four or five ambulances in attendance. These figures will rise. I do not want to speculate at the causes at this stage.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are injured and the families of the deceased and effected .
I thank the emergency services particularly the ambulance services and the ZRP for response .

The driver of the haulage truck which was involved in a horror crash early this morning is reported to have fled from the scene of the accident.

The wife of the driver seems to be in shock and said that she had not seen anything at all leading up to the accident. She revealed that the couple was coming from Zambia when the horror crash occured.
