HARARE: Zimbabwe defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi has responded to a flyer doing the rounds which suggests that the army has banned protests, a result of increased tensions between factions inside Zanu PF and also those inside the opposition MDC party.

“The ZNA and ZDF have got official spokespersons. When a statement has been written by an official spokesman I then have to reply to that,” said Sekeramayi responding to opposition MP Lilian Timveos’ question in Parliament on the flyer doing the rounds.

Sekeramayi warned against false information that circulates, “let’s be careful about what happens or what is written by Facebook and other social media, there are people who will celebrate if there is turmoil in this country.”

Sekeramayi says people with hidden agendas will spread false information to get the citizens in a state of panic.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has cancelled MDC-T Vice President, Adv Nelson Chamisa’s rally slated for tomorrow in Karoi.

The cops did this without explaining their reasons.

Many are left wondering if they are following orders from the army memo which has since been trashed by Sekeramayi.
