Business was brought to a standstill as shop attendants were forced to lock their doors for safety while passersby, forex dealers, open-air costermongers and mid-morning shoppers alike scurried for cover after a swarm of bees pounced at a shopping center in a Redcliff suburb, Midlands Province, this Thursday.

Reports say there was temple run at Majaji Shopping Centre in Redcliff’s Rutendo suburb after the sky-bloated bees emerged ‘from nowhere and started attacking right about every person who was around or proxy to the place’.

“Business was closed for about an hour and we locked ourselves in a toilet as the vicious bees pounced on us. It all started after a small girl was attacked by the bees and when some female vendors tried to help the girl by covering her with doeks, the bees started increasing in numbers and people had to scurry for cover,” said a Zwnews mole who eye-witnessed the incident.

“Right about every shop was closed and some brave residents had to quell the bee swarms by burning tyres and the situation eventually normalised after about an hour or so. Quite a considerable number of people, including children, were stung by the marauding bees and we are still not yet sure of their current state,” the source said.

During the time of publishing, Zwnews was yet to ascertain the magnitude of casualties caused by the bee attacks.
