Zanu PF politician and former governor of Mashonaland West Mr Peter Chanetsa has died.

Chanetsa who made news headlines after being tricked to sign a blank paper that was later doctored to effect Chris Mutsvangwa suspension from the ruling party succumbed to an undisclosed illness and passed away in Harare at Parirenyatwa hospital in the early hours of today, a close family member has revealed.

Late last year, the former Hurungwe North member of parliament was mentioned among 7 Zanu PF politicians whose health had deteriorated rapidly since the start of factional wars to succeed Mugabe.

His death has been confirmed by Kindness Paradza, Makonde MP.

He however refused to reveal further details about the death.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West has agreed to recommend that the former diplomat be interred at the National Heroes Acre.

Before his death, Chanetsa had been struggling financially and was humiliated when a Harare judge gave him a conditional civil prison sentence over a CBZ Bank debt of $19 000.

He escaped jail after the bank accepted an out of court settlement.
