Parliament of Zimbabwe Speaker, Jacob Mudenda

Auditor General Mildred Chiri’s 2020 report has revealed a fuel and procurement scam at the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

As shown by the report, Parliament of Zimbabwe’s accounting system is in disarray.

Chiri’s report expressed concern over the possibility of fuel looting & fictious payments.

Meanwhile, the report also revealed that out of the ninety-two (92) Local Authorities, forty-one (41) had current (2020) financial statements submitted for audit, whilst fifty-one (51) had not submitted their accounts as at November 30, 2021.

As revealed, expenditure amounting to $1 309 482 199 was not supported by documents such as acquittals, invoices, receipts, delivery, and goods received notes as proof that the recorded transactions really occurred.

As stated by OpenparlyZw, the audit findings warrant the attention of management and those charged with governance.

The audit revealed that most of the weaknesses emanated from governance issues.
