Exiled former cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo says the holding of primary elections is a good yardstick in political settings, as it shows strength.
“In politics, especially electoral politics, there is always serious strength in numbers that are told through a political party’s structures in an organised activity like was seen at ZanuPF’s weekend primary elections, as opposed to numbers told by rallies or public gatherings,” says Moyo.
Meanwhile, Citizens Coalition for Change president Nelson Chamisa has insisted that his party will not hold primaries, opting for citizens to do the selection.
“We want citizens to choose their own representatives as MPs, Councilors and Presidents. Candidates are going to be chosen by the local citizens and not the leader.
“Citizens should choose the best candidate in terms of integrity, honour, merit, accountability, accessibility and also visibility,” he says.
