Midlands Zimbabwe: Emmerson Mnangagwa has received a major boost from his regional allies in the Midlands who have openly declared that they are pushing for Mnangagwa presidency at the end of Mugabe’s term.
The restive Midlands Province has also unleashed a wave of violence against perceived opponents from Zanu PF and G40 camps reminding them that Mnangagwa is Zimbabwe’s number 2 after President Mugabe.
Speaking to reporters in Harare a former government minister, key Mnangagwa ally and Team Lacoste top dog July Moyo recently declared that the Midlands Province is now ready for President Mnangawa and nothing else.
” It is my wish to see Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa become president after cde Robert Mugabe. I have no problems with it, so if he can be, so be it, ” said July Moyo.
Moyo’s statement resonates well with the views of war vets who also happened to be a powerful arm of Team Lacoste faction.
Zimbabwe war vets recently shocked Mugabe when they openly expressed their desire for a new president with many guessing that they are now ready for Mnangagwa who also enjoy a strong backing of Zimbabwe’s security top brass and armed forces.
It is because of this support that Mnangagwa is immune to the expulsions that have unseated a number of fringe players in the Team Lacoste camp.
Speaking to journalists on condition of anonymity a war vet working for Joice Mujuru’s Zim People First told reporters that Mnangagwa is a lot closer to succeeding Mugabe than his G40 rival.
“With this type of support, Mnangagwa can safely walk to the statehouse with his eyes closed,” he said.
