A 55-year-old Hwendedzo man has appeared in court facing charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor on several occasions and impregnating the 15-year-old girl.
The girl (name withheld) is a friend of the accused’s daughter and they attended school together.
Savious Matimbire (55) appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Phillip Makondo last week and the matter was postponed to February 13, 2023 for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor Nixon Chamisa told the court that the incident happened between July and September, 2022. Chamisa said that Matimbire allegedly proposed to the minor when she had visited her friend and the two started dating.
Matimbire then allegedly had sexual intercourse with the minor on several occasions until she got pregnant.
The girl is orphaned and stays with her grandmother. Her aunt who had visited heard that the minor was dating Matimbire and she tipped off the Police.
Police investigations led the girl to reveal the affair.
She was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for medical examination on December 12, 2022 and it emerged that she was 18 weeks and 5 days pregnant.
