Zim Warriors play Zambia in COSAFA final after Chigova denies Lesotho from the penalty spot

George Chigova was again the saviour as he helped Zimbabwe book their place in the final of the 2018 COSAFA Cup on Wednesday evening.

The big goal minder pulled a textbook performance in the the Warriors’ 3-1 penalty shootout victory over the Crocodiles of Lesotho in a thrilling COSAFA Cup semi final clash at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium after the match had ended nil all in regular time.

The first half saw few meaningful chances created. Brian Amidu received the best opportunity before the break but failed to reach the target with the keeper to beat.

The introduction of Talent Chawapiwa early in the second half, however, brought in some life on the right wing as the forward delivered well-made crosses including the one which was headed wide by Tinotenda Kadewere in the 70th minute.

Kadewere also failed to reach a beautiful through pass from Khama Billiat eight minutes later which had a potential to bring a change.

The match was decided on spot kicks.

Khama Billiat, Jameson Mukombwe and Alec Mudimu scored.

George Chigova saved Lesotho’s first two penalty kicks from Kalake and Moremoholo before he was beaten on the third penalty by Nkoto.

Lesotho thought they had scored their fourth penalty but the referee disallowed Thabantso’s goal sending Zimbabwe into the 2018 COSAFA Cup final match with last year’s opponents, Zambia Chipolopolo.
