A 69 year old Borrowdale man in Harare has committed suicide by shooting over a dead pet, saying life was unbearable without it.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident which happened on the 13th of this month.
In a statement to the ZRP Officer Commanding Police, Acting Harare Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Assistant Inspector Chazovachiyi said the deceased called his friends, relatives and lawyer to inform them that he was failing to cope with life without his cat, which he lived with at an old people’s home.
According to the statement, the unnamed senior citizen was then found in a pool of blood by a friend who checked on him the following day.
Assistant Inspector Chazovachiyi urged members of the public to seek counseling from community and church leaders as well as relatives to avoid such incidences.
