Today a Boeing 747 plane from Zambia faked ‘crash landing and catching fire’ at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport.
Airport spokesperson Passmore Dewa confirmed the simulation crash that saw the dispatch of Bulawayo based emergency services.
“It’s an international exercise to check disaster preparedness,” he said.
Staged plane crashes are designed to replicate the pressures of a real-life situation.
This exercise was about displaying the coordinated emergency arrangements to demonstrate that if there was ever an incident of this magnitude in Bulawayo, emergency response teams are equipped to deal with the situation.
Zimbabwe has a clean record of plane safety, the country has never experienced any major plane disasters since independence.
