HARARE: A Harare family lost US$11 500 to armed Mashurugwis  who raided their home in Emerald Hill on Tuesday this week.

We have posted below an audio recording of a terrified female who witnessed this machete raid between Broadlands Road and Donegal Road in the capital city.

Part of the audio says:

Good morning, there is an attack happening at Broadlands close to Donegal…The people in the house have been stopped from leaving by some whole gang of people in a white car and people walking past..2 of my staff have been attacked, threatened with guns and machetes. They have been strip-searched. Everything they had was stolen. They were looking for celphones ..They were told if they did not lie on the grass they were going to be shot..Its happening right now..please help to send help to that house emmidiately

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the Emerald Hill incident:

“We confirm that the complainant and his security guards were attacked by a machete-wielding gang at their house and the robbers went away with US$11 500.

“The gang was using a Toyota Wish and a VW Golf during the attack,” he said..

“We also want to appeal to them to always report to the police any suspicious vehicles or people following them. The public is encouraged not to keep large sums of cash with them,” he said.
