HARARE: A bid by first lady Grace Mugabe’s son to divorce his wife hit a snag last week when he failed to supply the High Court with an original copy of his marriage certificate.

High Court judge Justice Pricilla Munangati-Manongwa on Thursday ordered Russel Goreraza to supply the court with the original marriage certificate.

Justice Munangati-Manongwa directed Goreraza’s lawyer, Tafadzwa Hungwe, to avail to the court an original copy of the marriage certificate or at the very least a certified copy of the original certificate. The matter was then postponed to allow Hungwe to address the issue.

Goreraza and his wife Gladys are not challenging the cancellation of their seven-year marriage and the divorce was set to be by consent.

According to the court papers, the first lady’s son filed for divorce against Gladys on December 11 2015 and the matter had not been set down for hearing since then.

In his declaration, Goreraza said he got married to Gladys on December 11 2010 and their marriage was blessed with one minor child born on February 15 2013.

Their marriage, according to the attached marriage certificate number 20/2010, was solemnised by the head of the Catholic Church Archdiocese of Harare, Father Fidelis Mukonori.

Goreraza said they had irreconcilable differences and were incompatible with each other to the extent that they had not lived as husband and wife for the past three years.
