An 18 year-old boy and form 4 student at Kotwa High school in Mudzi, Crossby Moses has died after drinking two bottles of Blue Diamond spirit.
Moses of Meza village under Chief Mukota in Mudzi died on Monday morning at Kotwa District Hospital where he had been admitted the previous night after a drinking spree.
Circumstances leading to Moses’ death are that on 6 August, the now deceased was drinking with fellow villagers at Tichangoshaina Bottle store at Nyamiyaruka business centre when one, Gift Muguvamadzi (27) from the same village, reportedly entered the bottle store and offered to buy beer for himself, Moses and one, Taurai Mudembo (25).
Close sources said Muguvamadzi bought a 200ml bottle of Blue Diamond spirit and offered Mudembo who gulped all the contents.
Mudembo is said to have walked out of the bottle vomiting and realising that, Moses allegedly challenged Mudembo, boasting that he could drink better than him.
Muguvamadzi reportedly bought another 200ml bottle of Blue Diamond spirit and gave it to Moses who gulped all the contents at once.
Moses is said to have requested for another bottle of the spirit and gulped all the contents again at once.
After that, Moses reportedly became weak and dizzy and was taken outside where his friends laid him on the bottle store verandah in an effort to resuscitate him.
The owner of the bottle store then reportedly called Moses’ grandfather who came and rushed the now deceased to Kotwa District hospital for medical attention where he was admitted at around 2200hrs.
Moses then died around 0530hrs the following morning.
His body is at Kotwa District hospital and is awaiting post mortem.
