The Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) has granted the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) the nod to increase power generation by an additional 100 megawatts (MW) at Lake Kariba.
This would bring the total power supplies from the Kariba hydropower plant to 350MW from the previous 250MW.
Apparently, the country is currently facing electricity shortages amid low water levels at Kariba Dam and obsolete generation equipment.
Zimbabwe has for years been importing power from neighbouring countries like South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia.
Generally, the region is now facing electricity shortages.
