The ruling ZANU PF Gokwe South District Youth League has reaffirmed its support for the party’s First Secretary and presidential candidate in next year’s harmonised elections, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, saying the party is in safe hands under the 79-year old’s leadership.
Speaking to our news-crew in Gokwe Town Centre this week, various Midlands provincial youth league members said Mnangagwa will certainly garner the targeted Five Million votes, adding that nothing will stand in his way to romp to a staggering electoral victory in the 2023 harmonised polls.
Mnangagwa will likely face serious political competition from his 2018 archrival Nelson Chamisa, formerly with the MDC Alliance, who now leads the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party.
“As members of the Zanu PF Midlands Youth League in Gokwe South, we are hundred percent behind our First Secretary and 2023 presidential candidate, Dr Mnangagwa. We are already rolling out various electoral campaign initiatives to ensure that the 5 million votes for the President will be attainable,” said Madron Matiza (pictured above with police escort) a provincial youth league member.
“We are confident that the party will record a historic victory and it is not time to think of our opponents in the oppositional establishment,” he said.
Zanu PF will have to fight hard to achieve its targeted 5 million votes next year, if the recent by-elections are anything to go by. The party dismally performed against Chamisa’s CCC, getting a mere four seats out of the 29 seats at stake.
