Not even the sky seems to be the limiting factor for versatile and multitalented Kwekwe’s recording songstress-cum-actress, Quincee Jay, who has now set her sights on partaking a massive marketing drive in a two-pronged mission to take both her musical and thespian acts to regional and international platforms.
“I must say local music producers especially here in Kwekwe have a tendency of disappointing clients and ever since my return from South Africa where I was based late last year, I have been a victim of incompetent producers who have a knack for sitting on their jobs. Imagine, at one particular studio (name supplied), I had to endure for close to two months to have my single track mastered,” said the elegant performer in an interview with our news-crew in the Midlands town this week.
Born Clara Jerimani in Chirumanzi district some 30 years ago, the former Globe and Phoenix High School student Quincee Jay also believes that the only way local artists can improve themselves was through collaborations with other crooners beyond the tiny, landlocked southern African nation.
Since the recording of her debut 2007 single track, Tsime reRuponeso- a fusion of jazz and gospel genres- Quincee Jay now boasts of over 15 singles and a single album to her belt.
She has also worked with a variety of established local and international producers during her stay in neighboring South Africa.
These include the inimitable Sam Chris, Nhubu Digital, KSG Di Don and Nhubu Digital.
The reggae/conscious musician whose melodious vocals are bound to leave competitors in the market green with envy, also worked with Jamaican producer Nafty Cole during his stay in South Africa.
“Although I was already into conscious music, I must say Nafty Cole played a key role in shaping my aspirations as a recording artist. With him, I did quite a number of recordings mainly reggae and gospel tracks. My attachment to the gospel genre has its roots in the Livingstone Apostolic Church (formerly St Angels Church) where my musical career was birthed,” she said.
Quincee Jay further quipped that the immediate projections of efficiently establishing her brand regionally and internationally is hinged on her previous connections in South Africa.
Added the Walk Away singer:
“Endurance has driven me thus far and ever since I started penning my own songs when I was just a Seventh Grade scholar at Driefontein Primary School, I have never tired. Like everyone else, the current economic difficulties and the COVID19-induced constraints affecting the arts industry have a negative impact on my maximum potential, but I always strive to make the very best out of myself.”
