A Chiredzi businessman and his wife were Tuesday this week left counting heavy loses after they were attacked by robbers who claimed to be in possession of a pistol before ransacking the pair’s residence, getting away with a cellphone, various amounts in hard currency and a Nissan Caravan vehicle which was latter recovered by the police.

Two of the suspects have since been arrested while an unspecified figure of their accomplices are still on the run, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said in a statement yesterday.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Zakaria Ncube (41) and Brianmax Tom Mudau (26) in connection with a robbery case which occured at MC Compound, Chikombedzi, Chiredzi on 29 March 2022, at around 0145hrs,” partly reads the press statement from the police.

According to the ZRP, the suspects were initially spotted by an alert security guard while being dropped from a silver Honda Fit with registration number AFL 9425 at Chikombedzi business centre before they besieged on the complainant’s residence.

“The suspects latter stormed the complainant’s house where they attacked a local businessman and his wife . They threatened to shoot them with an unidentified pistol whiule demanding cash. The suspects ransacked the house and stole a wallet containing  US$1 000-00, ZAR8 000-00, bank cards, a Huawei cellphone, and a Nissan Caravan vehicle (AFU 4903)”, said the ZRP.

Police reacted swiftly after a report had been filed with ZRP Chikombedzi, leading to the recovery of the Nissan Caravan which had been dumped some 40km from the crime scene, towards Rutenga.
