Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique Lt. General (Rtd) Douglas Nyikayaramba has died. The former chief of staff administration in the Zimbabwe national army died from Covid-19.

He had been battling for his life in intensive care since around January 10.

Close family members told a local publication Nyikayaramba fell ill after returning to the country on vacation from his station in Mozambique over the festive season holiday.

His death follows that of several other high-ranking officials from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Government and ZANU PF due to Covid-19.

Nyikaramba’s death was confirmed by President Mnangagwa this Tuesday during the first cabinet briefing at State House.

 

Meanwhile, The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe public affairs manager and spokesperson Ms Esther Massundah has died from Covid-19 related complications.

The Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations said Ms Massundah died on Tuesday morning and funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

“It is with a heavy heart that the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations notify you on the passing on of one of our members Esther Massundah who was leading the National Blood Services Communications strategy. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. Let’s remain resolute and steadfast in the fight against the covid-19 pandemic,” said the institute.
