Prominent investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who has been in and out of jail has paid tribute to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Chin’ono says were it not for the organisation, he would be in prison even up to today.

Meanwhile, ZLHR has helped many human rights and political activists who have been arrested.

And Chin’ono says the organization has done its best in standing up for constitutionalism.

“The most important Organisation today in human rights in Zimbabwe is the ZLHRL led by Rose Hanzi.

“If it were not for them, we would all be in prison today.

“It has stood up for constitutionalism,” he says.

Chin’ono is out of prison on bail, after he was arrested and charged with communicating falsehoods, alleging that a police officer had killed a baby, while assaulting its mother.

The ZLHR is also currently representing MDC Alliance leaders Joanna Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri.

The two were arrested and charged with undermining the authority of the police.

They are currently detained at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, pending bail ruling.
