An outspoken Zambian writer-cum-politician has called for the disbanding of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc), saying the regional bloc is a ‘letdown as an organisation’.
According to Joseph Kalimbwe of President Hakainde Hichilema’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND), the disbanding of Sadc arises from the body’s perennial failure to denounce oppression in the region.
“SADC is a let down as an organisation,” tweeted Kalimbwe.
He also added, saying:
The former African Union (AU) youth simulation president added, saying:
“For years, its chosen the interests of leaders, sent congratulatory messages even to those who win sham elections & refused to denounce oppression in our region. SADC must disband & reform !!!”
Beneath, we publish some of the responses to Kalimbwe’s post on Twitter:
