The Zimbabwe Republic Police spent the night at the National University of Science and Technology after students body Zimbabwe Students Union (ZINASU) called for the shutting down of tertiary institutions in protest over high school fees.
Apparently, the Government wrote a letter on a Sunday threatening employees to report for duty during the Monday shutdown “precarious moment.”
The government said staff attendance would be monitored every 2 hours.
A number of organizations including the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe have stood in solidarity with the students.
Meanwhile, ZINASU has thanked concerned stakeholders for showing solidarity.
“We applaud the MSU for much cooperation with the student fraternity of Zimbabwe. They took heed to the call, instead of opening today they decided to open on the 30th of May,” says ZINASU.
