Don’t forget that Zimbabwe does not have a former president. Who did you want us to send ? Anonymous
Zimnews reported on Monday that Mugabe was making a strange trip as there was not a single head of state (apart from him and few former presidents) at the the World Culture Festival (WCF) organised by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar of Art of Living.
The truth of the matter is that other leaders from Africa, the rest of the world including the Indian President Pranab Mukherjee saw no need to attend a low profile street carnival.
Upon arrival in New Delhi on Monday evening, Mugabe and crew then realised that the whole thing was a street circus that they should never have attended.
Mugabe’s Press secretary George Charamba confirmed this in a statement from New Delhi. He said Mugabe was now expected home “in a couple of days”.
“His Excellency, the President Robert Mugabe, has called off his engagement in India where he was scheduled to be guest of honour at the World Culture Festival. The event, which is a celebration of peace in multiculturalism and ecumenicist, was scheduled to begin tomorrow (today) March 10, 2016,” Charamba said yesterday.
Mugabe will now proceed to Singapore and Dubai before returning back to Zimbabwe with his huge entourage that includes First Lady Grace and several government officials.
Zimbabweans have resorted to laughter and humour as usual. Here is one interesting point on why other countries sent former presidents while Zimbabwe did the opposite: Don’t forget that Zimbabwe does not have a former president. Who did you want us to send ?
