There has been a lot of speculation on whether President Mugabe was about to retire and handover power to wife Grace or another person of his choice. His statements here shed more light on the fact that he is not about to do any favors ,either to Team Lacoste or G40 faction. These 2 factions supposedly led led by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Grace Mugabe are locked in a bitter struggle to succeed President Mugabe.

Mugabe on retirement:Why ‘successor’ when I am still there? Why do you want a successor? Do you want me to punch you to the floor to realise I am still there?
Mugabe on whether there is already a leader waiting: Grooming a successor, is it an inheritance? he asked….you don’t want leaders appointed that way. They have to be appointed properly by the people. Succession is not part of our culture.
Mugabe on handing over to wife Grace:they say that the president wants to leave the throne for his wife. Where have you seen that, even in our culture, where a wife inherits from her husband.
Mugabe’s 100 years project:I am happy because I am about to reach the age I want, you know the age I want? 100 years. So only 8 years left.
