COSAFA FINAL SCORES: Zimbabwe Mighty Warriors 4 Kenya 0
Defending champions, Zimbabwe beat Kenya 4-nil at Babourfields Stadium in Bulawayo this afternoon to set up a berth with perennial rivals, South Africa in the final of the COSAFA’s Women Championships.
Kenya ensured Zimbabwe’s qualification to the semi-finals on a best runner-up ticket when they beat Swaziland in their last group match earlier this week, but the Mighty Warriors had no mercy for their saviour, thrashing them 3-nil at the packed stadium to book a place in the final.
Rutendo Makore scored her 9th goal of the tournament when she fired from close range, before Berita Kabwe made it 2-nil just before half-time.
Marjory Nyaumwe then converted from a free-kick before Privilege Mupeti sealed the victory for the Mighty Warriors in the dying minutes of the match.
Zimbabwe now need to overcome the last hurdle in their quest to conquer Southern Africa again, and it comes in the form of a formidable Banyana Banyana side.
Earlier, South Africa mounted what looked like an impossible comeback to force a penalty shootout, which they subsequently won 5-3 against Zambia.
Trailing Zambia 3-nil with 13 minutes left, South Africa scored 3 goals in 7 minutes to force a shoot-out.
