The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has come open saying they are not going to use voter photographs on the final voters’ role that is going to be used during voting.
The commission’s chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba told the nation that the move to avoid using the pictures is meant to protect the identity and security of voters.
Be that as it may, a well-known political analyst has claimed that the real tool that President Emmerson Mnangagwa wants to use to rig the 2018 elections is to use ghost voters who do not have faces.
He questions the logic of having the photos taken in the first place, if they were not to be used, as claimed by ZEC.
Doctor Pedzisai Ruhanya says while people have many theories and speculations about how ZANU PF intended to rig elections, it has now come clear that the voters’ roll is the machine to be used and that is the main reason why it is not being released to stakeholders with photos of voters on it.
He says ZEC and its partner, President Mnangagwa wouldn’t want to give it to the public when it contains less of the legally accepted data for transparency’s and security’s sake, hence the dilly-dallying in doing the right thing.
“National elections should be constitutionally and legitimately run with clean and uncontested voters’ roll and secure ballot materials, without compromise.
“Voters’ roll with pictures should be made public, we want to see and verify those ZEC voters if they are real people, if they have faces, we want to visit them, so that no ghost voter may find way into the voting booth.” zwnews
