Zimbabwean Godfrey Gomwe has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of South African coal company MC Mining.

Gomwe is former-CEO of Anglo American’s coal business. He also sits on the Econet board.

Gomwe takes over as MC Mining pushes to start its delayed flagship project, the US$35m Makhado coal mine in Limpopo.

Gomwe was appointed to Econet board in May 2013.

He is a Chairman of the board’s Social and Ethics Committee and he also serves as a member of the Audit Committee.

He is a Chartered Accountant (Zimbabwe) and sits on a number of other boards.

He has vast experience in the corporate world, having held various executive positions in the last 27 years.
