Zimbabwe Warriors defender retires from international football

Zimbabwe international defender Costa Nhamoinesu has retired from international football.

Confirming the development this evening, Nhamoinesu on his Twitter account said; “Calling it a day at international level. Thank you God for the opportunity. Thank you Zimbabwe”.

Born on 6 January 1986 in Harare, Nhamoinesu currently plays in the Czech First League for Sparta Prague .

He featured 9 times for the Warriors and scored his first goal for Zimbabwe on 28 March 2016 against Swaziland in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

While playing in the Zimbabwean premier league for Masvingo United, Nhamoinesu was spotted by an agent who sent him to Poland, where he began playing for 5th division amateur side KS Wisła Ustroniaka.

In July 2008, he was loaned to Zagłębie Lubin, and was sold there in Summer 2010.

While at Lubin, Nhamoinesu became one of the most highly rated left-backs in the Polish league and in 2013, he signed a deal with Czech side AC Sparta Prague.

He made his league debut for Sparta Prague on 21 July 2013 in a 4-1 away victory over Vysočina Jihlava.

His first league goal for the club came on 31 August 2013 in a 4-1 home win over Baník Ostrava.

Nhamoinesu was part of the Warriors squad which participated at the 2017 Nations Cup finals in Gabon.
