Zimbabwe Cruise Past Botswana to Announce Four-Nation Tournament Arrival

Zimbabwe’s Warriors made a strong statement in the Mukuru Four-Nation Tournament with a convincing 3-0 victory over Botswana in Francistown on Saturday.

A dominant first-half performance set the tone, as Mongameli Tshuma, Macaulay Bonne and Bill Antonio all found the net to hand Zimbabwe a comfortable lead before the break. The Warriors controlled possession from the outset, creating early chances and keeping Botswana pinned in their own half.

Zimbabwe nearly opened the scoring inside five minutes when Bonne’s clever flick set up Teenage Hadebe, whose volley drifted just over the bar. The pressure continued as Godknows Murwira also went close, while Botswana struggled to settle under sustained attacks.

Despite a setback when Munashe Garan’anga was forced off through injury in the 21st minute, Zimbabwe’s momentum remained intact.

First-Half Control

The breakthrough came when Tshuma finished off a lively attacking move to give Zimbabwe the lead. Bonne then doubled the advantage soon after, combining effectively with Bill Antonio in a well-worked team move.

Takwara nearly added a third with a header from a set-piece before Antonio finally made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, calmly finishing after being set up by Bonne.

Half-time: Botswana 0-3 Zimbabwe

Second-Half Discipline

Zimbabwe maintained control after the break, managing the game with composure. Botswana showed brief improvement and were awarded a penalty in the 64th minute, but goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze produced an excellent save to preserve the clean sheet.

With the result effectively secured, Zimbabwe made several changes while continuing to limit Botswana’s attacking threat. The hosts had moments of possession, but the Warriors remained organised and saw out the match comfortably.

Full-time: Botswana 0-3 Zimbabwe
