Zimbabwe commissions Commercial Court

Zimbabwe is commissioning its Commercial Court today, which will deal with all disputes of a commercial nature.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana says the move is in line with the ease of doing business reforms.

The High Court (Commercial Division) Rules, 2020, were gazetted as Statutory Instrument 123 of 2020, and have brought about the establishment of the Commercial Court.

This is in line with Section 171(3) of the Zimbabwe Constitution which allows for the High Court to be divided into specialised divisions.

The current specialised divisions of the High Court are the Electoral Court [Electoral Court Act Ch2:13]; the Fiscal Appeal Court [Fiscal Appeal Court Act Ch 23:05]; the Special Court for Income Tax Appeals [Income Tax Act Ch 26;06]; the intellectual Property Tribunal [Intellectual Property Tribunal Act Ch 26:08]; and the criminal, civil and family law divisions.
