OUTSPOKEN cleric and Zion Christian Church (ZCC) leader, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi last Sunday visited Chimanimani for the launch of a fund that seeks to assist bereaved families and children of 39 church members who perished in the horrific bus disaster during Easter.

And, through the church’s social responsibility arm called the Rugare Community Relief, Bishop Mutendi’s ZCC also adopted children who were orphaned following the catastrophic carnage that was declared a state of national disaster by Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Bus Accident Victims Fund was held concurrently with a memorial service for all the 39 victims who lost their lives in the bloody carnage.

According to a report that was carried by community newspaper, Chipinge Times, secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Manicaland, Edgar Seenza, reveled that 13 people who survived in the road accident are still receiving medical treatment at the Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

Speaking during the memorial service that was held at Ngangu Grounds in Chimanimani, Mutendi thanked the local community and others for assisting church members during the disaster.

Said the church leader:

“I want to thank all who supported us and who are still assisting us as a church. We are very grateful for the support. As a church we will also continue to support the children who lost their parents during the accident”.

According to Seenza, the Zimbabwe Government will continue to assist members of the bereaved families.

“The government declared the accident a national disaster and will therefore assist families with coffins, transport, food and medical accessories”.

The event was also graced by Chimanimani MP, Joshua Sacco who described the memorial as ‘making a good impact on the lives of Chimanimani people.
