Latest: Mugabe’s meeting with war vets in Harare today 27 July 2016

Today(Thursday, 27th July) President Robert  Mugabe is going to meet with liberation war vets to discuss the way forward following calls by former fighters for ‘a new face at Zimbabwe Presidential State House’.

–will never vote for zanu pf, mugabe..Zimbabwe War Vets

Zimbabwe war veterans made histrory last week when they openly and fearlessly told the world that Mugabe has become an excessive burden to the welfare of Zimbabweans.

The now infamous Harare Declaration is almost as direct as one statement penned by a Thsolotsho MP in 2006;

‘That Mugabe must now go is thus no longer a dismissible opposition slogan but a strategic necessity that desperately needs urgent legal and constitutional action by Mugabe himself well ahead of the presidential election scheduled for 20..8 in order to safeguard Zimbabwe’s national interest, security and sovereignty,’ said Jonathan Moyo in 2006.

Looking at the meeting at hand, many are left wondering why Mugabe is calling for a meeting with ‘dissidents’ he had vowed to crash.

While optimists in the ruling Zanu PF have labelled the indaba a solidarity meeting others suggest the meeting shows how desperate Mugabe is to hold on to power despite open opposition from his foot soldiers.

The meeting is expected to be attended by Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, ex-detainees, restrictees and war collaborators among others.

There are concerns within ranks of war veterans that Mugabe is not sincere as he is, on one side showing them his camaraderie side, while threatening to crash  vocal and free thinking  rebels at the same time.

Whatever  the outcome, one thing is clear, large numbers of war vets want Mugabe out of office, there are strong rumors suggesting they want him replaced by his former aide, vice president Emmerson D Mnangagwa.

92 year old Mugabe has a long way to go..in his own words, he is targeting an insane 100 years!
