Afcon Results: Zimbabwe Warriors in 2-2 draw thriller with Algeria

Zimbabwe warriors restrict Algeria to a 2 all draw at Gabon Afcon 2017

Line Ups and match updates, earlier on

Zimbabwe Warriors lived up to expectation when they produced a stellar performance to restrict Algeria to a two all draw in a Group B match played at Stade de Franceville , Gabon Africa Cup of Nations(Afcon 2017).

The Warriors team played an outstanding show with Willard Katsande and Khama Billiat being the brightest stars in the encounter.

The North Africans opened the score line with Leicester City hit man Mahrez Riyad hitting the nets in the 12th minute.

Zimbabwe then equalised with Kudakwashe Mahachi 6 minutes later.

It was sweet and good in the 29th minute as Zimbabwe took the lead via a Nyasha Mushekwi spot kick.

However, Algeria slowly picked themselves to the break and started the second half with fire and relentless attacks.

Zimbabwe had few opportunities and could have conceded a lot but managed to hold on and had to settle for a draw after Mahrez levelled the scores with a long range drive following a Zimbabwe attack.

The match finished with the Desert Foxes on the hunt for a third but it was not their day.

Final scores Zimbabwe 2 Algeria 2.

Zimbabwe lost Knowledge Musona early in the match to injury.

This result should not surprise many especially those who have followed past matches between Zimbabwe and North Africa sides(Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria).

Zimbabwe does have a very good record against these sides as compared to West African teams.

This could be repeated against Tunisia but it will be  tough going with Senegal on next match!
