Zim Dollar Pension Dillema For Phelekezela Mphoko

Despite demands by former Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko to be paid over US$320 000 as his pension, the Government has said it is tabling Zimbabwean dollars, saying Mphoko should not expect any other pension benefits.
Harare says it is offering to pay Mphoko ZW$765 706, 58 in pension.
This comes after Mphoko’s legal representative, Zibusiso Ncube of Ncube and Partners lodged an application at the High Court seeking an order directing the Harare administration through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to award the ex-VP US$320 000 or the equivalent in local currency at an interbank rate plus monthly pension payouts.
Cited as respondents in Mphoko’s High Court application are Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda, PSC Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe, the Salary Service Burreau (SSB) and the PSC.
However, Dr Sibanda, through the Civil Division in the Attorney General’s Office said Harare will only pay Mphoko ZWL$765 706, 58 in pension and did not commit any other pension payouts.
Mphoko, a former ally to former First Lady Grace Mugabe, was professedly a member of the vanquished G40 cabal which was viciously opposed to his former co-VP Emmerson Mnangagawa succeeding late long-ruling Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.
He was removed following a coup that toppled Mugabe in November 2017.
