Opposition Protests in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
As promised yesterday, thousands of opposition activists staged political demos across Zimbabwe’s major cities and towns including Bulawayo, Harare, Masvingo, Gweru, Mutare, Gwanda and Kadoma.
However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police came out in full force and crashed protests in Harare and surrounding areas.
Only Bulawayo managed to stage successful marches while the rest of the country saw many people arrested and stopped by heavily armed police.
They went on to arrest more than 200 protesters including opposition MDC MPs and party officials.
In Harare, Mr Ronia Bunjira, the MDC-T legislator for Harare was arrested for allegedly questioning why police officers arrested 11 residents in Waterfalls after they allegedly staged protests at Parktown shopping centre over the government’s refusal to adopt and implement electoral reforms demanded by a coalition of political parties.
