ZEC Extends Voter Registration Period

In preparation for the 2023 harmonised elections, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has prolonged the final mobile biometric voter registration exercise by five days.

The exercise, which was initially planned to end on 21 March, will now end on 26 March.

ZEC took to Twitter on 17 March to announce the extension and advised the public that voter education and registration blitz would also be prolonged.

ZEC had earlier reported experiencing unplanned power outages and adverse weather conditions in some parts of the country, hindering the final mobile voter registration blitz in certain locations.

With around 5,000 centres listed across the country, eligible citizens can register to vote during the biometric voter registration, with Bulawayo having 71 centres.

The voter registration process is a precursor to the 2023 harmonised elections slated for July this year.

President Mnangagwa recently announced the final delimitation report, marking the country’s constituencies and wards.
